Kuno Beller’s Developmental Chart 0–9 uses examples drawn from pedagogical praxis to give educators nuanced knowledge about developmental changes during the first ten years of childhood. The method of observation provides educators with a powerful tool that will help them take a systematic, objective perspective on the individual child’s interests and abilities in eight areas of development: Bodily Awareness and Care, Awareness of Surroundings, Social-Emotional Development, Play, Language and Literacy, Cognition, Gross Motor Skills, and Fine Motor Skills. The developmental chart aids educators in observing and documenting development, planning and carrying out discussions on a child’s progress with colleagues and parents, and setting up the pedagogical environment in a way that stimulates and challenges the individual child.
